We didn’t set out to start a jerky business. But here we are.
Beach Jerky started the way the best things do — with a hobby that got out of hand.
We’re Mal and Chris O’Malley — uncle and nephew, Belmont North locals, and the two blokes behind every bag. We’d been making jerky for years, sharing it with workmates and mates. The feedback kept coming back the same: this is too good to keep to yourselves. So we didn’t.
Neither of us has a fancy culinary background — and that’s exactly the point. What we do have is a family tradition of cooking, and what Chris calls “a lot of trial and error.” That instinct for flavour, passed down and perfected over time, is what you taste in every bag.
The name Beach Jerky isn’t an accident. We grew up with Jewells Beach as our backyard, Mal’s a regular at Belmont Golf Club overlooking the water, and we’ve shared a love of surfing our whole lives. The coast isn’t just a backdrop — it’s who we are. Plus, it’s a great play on words.
These days, you’ll find us running our food trailer at several local markets most weekends, with Mal’s grandkids working the counter, learning to count change and make sales. We started with three flavours. The range has grown as the business has — Chilli, Gnarly Chilli, Lime & Cracked Pepper, Honey & Soy, Red Wine & Garlic, and Teriyaki — all in 100g bags, all on the plumper side (because stringy jerky that rips your fillings out isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time).
What makes us different
We don’t use fillers, shortcuts, or ingredients you can’t pronounce. Just quality beef, honest marinades, and flavours we’d actually want to eat.
Seven flavours. Each one is different. Each one deliberate. Whether you’re after something sweet, something smoky, or something that makes your eyes water — we’ve got you.
And yes, it travels well. Beach, boat, campfire, boot of the car — Beach Jerky goes where you go.
